Growing up, everyone wanted to be in Gryffindor. If you characterized yourself as a do-gooder in the face of fear, or weathered hardships without complaint, you were a Gryffindor. If you always chose the high road and completed every side quest in every RPG, you were a Gryffindor. Gryffindor was the house of heroes, the house of the chosen one, and the house that Dumbledore seemed to rain upon with numerous points for whatever reason he deemed suitable.
“Harry finished his supper all by himself! Fifty points for Gryffindor!” – Professor Dumbledore
29. What is your favorite cosplay item? (i.e. a wig, a pair of shoes)
My favorite item is probably the first prop I ever made, my Silence Glaive. Though it could use some tweaking, since I feel I’ve improved my prop making techniques since I made it about 4 years ago. This is a horrible picture of it, but it’s the only one I have available right now. I still love this prop to pieces, and I wish I could cosplay Saturn again if only to have an excuse to use it again lol
A close second however, would be my Pokeballs or my Shadow Galactica bracelets. I only wish I had been able to use the Bracelets more than once (since I retired Saturn right after the con I used them at). The Pokeballs, on the other hand, have given me an excellent idea for some new designs, and I can’t wait to try them out :3 Maybe I’ll have a new favorite, we’ll see lol
28. Where do you work on your cosplays and where do you store them when you are done?
Well, since I can’t sew, most of my cosplay work is prop related; so most of my work is actually done on my bedroom floor, leaning up against my closet door lol For messy projects (i.e. spray paint), I take it out to the backyard, and if there is anything wood related, I get my dad’s help in the garage.
Storing everything afterward is starting to become a challenge as I get more pieces. Pretty much everything gets stored in my closet: outfits on one side, normal clothes on the other, and all props/wigs up on the top shelf that isn’t inhabited by the contents of what should be a mini Borders Express (aka: my bookshelves). However, they need to be organized, because I can’t get things to stay nicely up there with all of the bags of props and accessories. The only piece that isn’t stored there is my Silence Glaive, which is housed behind my bedroom door due to it’s size. Even though I don’t cosplay Saturn anymore, that piece is still a dream made reality, and I enjoy looking at it from my bed whenever I can lol
27. How many wigs do you own? Which is your favorite?
I currently own 6 wigs. 2 of these are either no longer in use (my Saturn wigs: incarnation 1 and 2), 1 was a mistake that was replaced (short dark golden wig that was too short for Rhyme), and 3 are still used (Belarus, Shima, and my new Rhyme wig). There were 7, but since it was filled with goopy hair product when I received it and was beyond salvageable (the failed commissioned Jasmine wig), it sadly had to be thrown out.
My favorite of these… can I only pick one? If I must, I’d have to go with Shima’s or Saturn incarnation 2. Shima is a nice, light wig that takes very little care to keep nice and doesn’t get in my way, even if it is not exactly my color lol Saturn is just a lot of fun because I have a lot of fun wearing dark wigs and they don’t look too bad on me either lol Though somehow, all of my recent cosplays have been some rendition of blonde or light brown… lol I should remedy that XD
26. Any unfinished costumes? Will you ever finish them?
As matter of fact, I do. 3 of them actually. Rhyme, as I’ve only been talking about this entire meme (lol), Karis from Golden Sun Dark Dawn, and Jock!America from Hetalia.
Rhyme is slated to be finished before Yaoi-Con 2011.
Karis… probably never will be. I had Karis all planned out, but her vest/tunic thing, coupled with my lack of sewing ability, made this impossible. Maybe if I get sewing skills, more cons to go to, and an unlimited amount of money, I’ll try again with her someday.
Jock!America was going to be part of a duo with Sally as a nerdy England, but I was so focused on bring Jasmine to fruition that it fell by the wayside. I don’t think this one will ever be finished.
“This sentence has five words. Here are five more words. Five-word sentences are fine. But several together become monotonous. Listen to what is happening. The writing is getting boring. The sound of it drones. It’s like a stuck record. The ear demands some variety. Now listen. I vary the sentence length, and I create music. Music. The writing sings. It has a pleasant rhythm, a lilt, a harmony. I use short sentences. And I use sentences of medium length. And sometimes, when I am certain the reader is rested, I will engage him with a sentence of considerable length, a sentence that burns with energy and builds with all the impetus of a crescendo, the roll of the drums, the crash of the cymbals–sounds that say listen to this, it is important.”—Gary Provost (via atomos)
Honestly, this was going to be a toss up between Jasmine & Rhyme. I don’t know if I can count Rhyme, as she isn’t finished yet, but I think when this is all said and done, she will be the one that had the most work done to her. I’m waiting on a replacement wig right now (the people I ordered from sent me the wrong wig, but are sending me a new one because I nicely complained lol), but once I get it/if it is hopefully right, I’m going to post some new in-progress pics I think. I still am having some issues with the shirt color/need to paint it, haven’t even gotten to touch her shorts yet (though they are sitting in my garage >.>), need to work on the shoes, finish making a pin for her hat, finish the stencil for the aforementioned shirt, and work on the bell necklace with Sally one day soon. Phew! lol
I think the only thing I have that is perfect right now is the beanie lol I have a lot to do still despite having most of the materials in my possession. Maybe after I get my hw done this weekend? *is shot for even suggesting*
24. Your most comfortable cosplay and your most uncomfortable cosplay.
The most comfortable is actually a toss up, but I’d have to go with Jasmine. At least, if I can exclude her evil shoes. Her outfit itself is the most comfortable costume I own by far, with Shima as a close second (and she has better shoes than Jasmine lol). If I could get some white sandals that aren’t heeled that have the right design, I’d switch them in a heartbeat, because then I would be happy to wear her all day.
Uncomfortable, hands down, belongs to Belarus. While her shoes are by far the easiest to wear because I forwent total accuracy for broken in comfort, her outfit just has so many freaking layers. Between her black nylons, long sleeved dress, long wig, gloves, sash/bow, not to mention her knife and my Russia plushie I tote around, I’m always in a fix. At Fanime, it’s too hot to wear; at Y-Con it’s perfect, but her gloves make doing anything difficult. And she has so much that it makes it hard to pack everything and still have room for anything else (and when you are limiting yourself to one medium sized suitcase and a small carry on for public transport purposes, this becomes difficult). I have fun wearing her, but she can be a bit of a hassle depending on the season lol
